Bangladesh joins 'World Nuclear Club' Start the original construction work.

The Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAC) has received 'Design and Construction License' as part of the initial work of the main construction phase of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority has licensed the first unit of power plant to Bangladesh, officially joining the 'World Nuclear Club' (Nuclear Nation) through this license. Bangladesh is the 32nd country of this club. Rooppur nuclear power project is being implemented to supply 90 percent of Russia's project cost. This project will be used by Russia's newly launched three-generation (3-plus-generation) nuclear reactor of VVER 1200 technology. Each of the 1,000 megawatt power plants will be installed in Rooppur. In the year 2023, the first and the second year will be the second reactor. At present, 450 nuclear power plants are running in 31 countries of the world. Their production capacity is around 3,92,000 MW (392 gigawatt). Apart from Bangladesh, more than 60 units are under construction in different countries, with a total capacity of about 60,000 megawatts.
